I'm looking to upgrade my RAM and I ran in to some that came with heat spreaders. But of course, they cost $50 more. Is it even worth the money to reduce whatever amount of heat they output?

If you don't have heat issues now and you don't OC you absolutely do not need and should not spend the extra money. Here is a link you might want to look at, it is a sticky in the sticky at the beginning of this section. Link

I was joking, you didn't really need to put a link to newegg. I've been reading Digg and Fark too much lately.

You should not need heat spreaders! If you want to spend more go for it.
