    2x512 MB vs. 1GB RAM

Is there a difference in performance between these?

Would like as much info as possible.

    Thanks!

If the 512mb ram chips are identical and your laptop supports it then you'll be able to benefit from them running in dual channel mode, but that gives little performance gain. With 1Gb you don't get the dual channel but you do get a cheaper upgrade to 2Gb should you ever want to do so, as all you need to do is buy another 1Gb sodimm instead of 2 1Gb sodimms and sell the 512s.

As jess_paws has said, there is little difference between the two in terms of performance. Even if both of the 512 MB modules are from the same manufacturer, and run syncronously, they difference in performance will be very little. However, if you go with the one module with a density of 1 GB, then you can quite easily upgrade to something like 2 GB of RAM, which quite a few games reuire now, to run smoothly.
