Can you implant an RFID chip (like they do in dogs) into your laptop so, if stolen or lost, you can go to a vet or something and find it? Or any type of broadcasting chip for the matter?

I plan on purchasing a Macbook Pro in the near future for on the go music production/DJing and am terrified of it being stolen; not only because I'll lose my work, but I'll lose $1,700. I'm not sure if AppleCare protects against theft, and have heard of some programs that, when the laptop is powered on, will broadcast it's location. Assuming the person knows anything about computers, they'd wipe the drive before booting the OS, so I'd much rather rely on a separate piece of hardware.

those programs are downright to the bios, so no amount of swapping HDDs is going to make them go away.

you can put the rfid chip, just open it, and put it there somewhere with a tape on it

Perfect! I did not know it was on the BIOS, that's awesome. I'll probably end up doing both ways. Thanks!

do some research on the pc/mac 'lojack' systems to be sure that they will work for you in the specific circumstances you'll be in.
