Looking for an external display that will do the full 16.7Million color range. Can't seem to find any. Are they available? Or do normal LCD external displays do a pretty good job?

Modern S-PVA and S-IPS displays can display 16.7M colours.

They cost quite a bit more than the el-cheapo TN-panel displays though.

What is your budget and what applications do you need it for? Do you need a hardware color calibrator too?

My budget is $350. Doesn't need to be the best out there. Looking for greater than 22". Application is Photoshop and digital printing. I've looked into hardware calibration, but it will have to be purchased later. Just want my prints to match the screen, especially when the color profile matches the output device.

I've seen the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" WSXGA+ eIPS monitor for ~$200, could almost get two of those for your budget :p eIPS isn't quite as good as sIPS but better than any VA or TN panel.

No, that uses a TN panel and if you are sensitive to color, it will be noticeably worse than the eIPS panel.

Ok thanks for the tips. I read up about the different display types. Makes sense now. The Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" seems like the display to go with. They don't by chance make a version in 1920x1xxx do they? 1680x1050 decent, but a little under what I'm looking for to go along with bluray.

For WUXGA resolution, you're going to have to look at 24"+. I don't think they make any panels for 22" with that resolution for an IPS panel.

Samsung should be coming soon with an afforable LED display. I don't think it's RGB LED though.
