Hi guys, I've got a situation with my old and my current computer.

Last february I purchased the Dell Studio XPS 16 that came with the RGBLED display, gorgeous monitor, vibrant rich colors. The months passed and I noticed that the computer was a little iffy. Random BSOD's, video playback was choppy, and other few things. I contacted their support team and they sent in a technician to replace the motherboard. They did which was quick and pain free but a few months after that the computer just stopped starting. Just froze in the "Dell" screen. I contacted dell support again and they concluded that they should do a system exchange which I agreed to.

Today I just received the new computer. Specs we're the same, EXCEPT that they sent in a 15.6" WLED display and not the RGBLED that I had grown to love. They did put in an extra 2gb of RAM to compensate for the display maxing it out at 8gb, and somehow I still feel cheated.

I wanted to ask the experts. Is there REALLY a noticeable difference in the displaying of colors between these two displays? (there is NOTICEABLE difference in true blacks)

I work in design so colors are very important to me, and if the display really is different then I might have to ask for my money back.

    Please help.

2GB's of RAM does NOT offset the price of the RGBLED screen. Those are usually much more expensive than WLED, plus the RGBLED probably covers a lot more of the color gamut than WLED. I would most certainly demand that they change or refund.

Not to play devil's advocate or anything but if you have to ask if theres a noticeable difference (implying that with your own eyes you aren't sure), then is it really that big a deal?

Your eyes are adjusted to the RGB screen so it takes a while to adjust to the WLED. RGB screens are usually heavily oversaturated and in this case, the WLED screen is more closer to natural colors(60-72%) than the RGB. I don't think you should be using either if you are really serious about your work. You need to get a real monitor that is not TN, imo.

I´m surprised you´re asking the question. What do you think of the difference?

Usually the RGB LED should be better, but if you got lucky, Dell gave you a really good WLED screen, that may even beat the RGB LED in certain aspects (contrast, black levels and brightness). It depends on what WLED panel you got. But generally speaking the RGB LED should beat the WLED.
