Hi. I want to downclock my processor on my Clevo (the one reviewed on this website) so that the battery lasts longer. I do use RM Clock (the free version) but I'm not sure if this would help. How do I do this, can I do it for free and what software do I/ do I not need?
Thanks loads. (I think I'm out of rep for today but I can give out some tommorrow).
Oh BTW, I want to be easily able to upclock to normal when on AC power. Thanks again.

RMClock's key function is undervolting.
However, within any power profile you can set different CPU speeds for battery and mains operation. If, for battery operation, you select only the first Index value on the list then the CPU will never run faster than that. However, the alternative is to let the (undervolted) CPU run as fast as it needs to complete the current task quickly and then go back to sleep.
Downclocking the CPU would involve dropping the FSB speed to the CPU runs below its normal minimum frequency. It is possible that some notebooks have this facility built into their hardware and own power management. RMClock has a CPU throtting option which I have never manage to understand. I tired it but could not see any significant change to power consumption.

Thanks loads. That's great.
Does this actually work though - I've not noticed much difference in speed.
What does the Use P-State Transitions (PST) do???
Thanks again. -

If you search the forums for RMClock you will find various threads discussing use of this software.
