    Hey guys.
    I currently have a Thinkpad T410 with 2GBPC3-8500 1067MHZ1DIMM.
I'm planning on adding ram, but I'm not sure what is the best approach.
I mainly use the laptop for light gaming and AutoCAD which slows down with large files. This is why I'm adding more ram.

Should I consider buying 1333MHZ ram? Would it make a large difference?

Is there a great advantage to adding 4 gb (making it a total of 6gb).
I currently have one slot available.

If I add just 2 gb (making it 4gb) should I make it 1333MHZ?

    Thanks a bunch guys!

    Jay

The specs show 1067 ram and up to 4gb ram for it. Anything faster will still only run at 1067, and it only supports 4gb. So you should just get another 2gb and that is it.

T410 with i3/i5/dual core i7 will only utilize 1066 DDR3 RAM. Any higher and it will automatically downclock to 1066. If you had the Clarksfield quad core i7 then you utilize 1333 RAM natively.

Wait what? Thinkpads since the T61 supported 8GB of RAM so i dunno why a "new" system like a T410 would only support 4GB. There's the thinking that the T410 probably could support 16GB just like the T61 supported 8 but only mentioned 4GB because 4GB SODIMMS weren't available at the time and were super expensive too. Same now, 8GB SODIMMS are like that now.

So for the OP, get another 4GB, hell get a 8GB kit, just checking newegg, they are like $44!!!!

    Newegg.com - Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 Laptop Memory Model KVR1066D3SOK2/8GR

I might get it just because, not that i actually even come close to using 8GB of RAM!

hey thanks for the replies guys.
I believe it does go up to 8 gb, but I'm not sure if it is worth it to go that much. Would I ever need that much Ram? The more money I save the better I suppose haha. If I don't need 6 gb, I won't spend the extra money on it.

    Thanks!

    What's your usage like?

Your OS (if it's Vista or higher) will ALWAYS make use of RAM in some way or another for caching... but there are diminishing returns and you likely won't notice much difference. Still, it may help.

I'd always go for a matched pair whenever possible.
