Instead of spending $80 for another 1GB of ram if I got a Thinkpad T61p, could I just buy this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145048
    and stick it in.

Also, is that the "standard" DDR2 667Mhz ram (would I go into a vostro or Asus V2s)

and is 5-5-5-12 the standard latency for notebook memory?

Yes but be careful how the RAM is configured, MFG's like to fill both slots so if you get 1GB and by one you only end up with 1.5GB 1Xgb & 1X512MB because it might come with 2X512MB. If that is true to get 2GB cost will be the same $80 but if you buy on your own you get two paper weights (2X512MB).

And yes it is a standard SO DIMM so will fit in other notebooks.

For the T61p at least the standard option is:
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM) [subtract $80.00]

so that is just 1 stick
