This is my first time buying a RAM upgrade, I know perfectly well how to install it just not sure which one to buy. I need 2 cards each having 2gb, so 2x2. Also my RAM is 200pin. I have heard many good things about Kingston, but if someone could actually pull up a good card that they would buy that would be great =). Also any info on buying RAM?

nowadays brand doesnt matter. as long as it has a good warranty.
gskill, kingston, corsair, patriot are all really good and if you do not do bench marks dont worry about cas latency.
    so go to newegg.com
    and have fun shopping.
oh and figure out you chipset.
    pm965 express only supports 667.
    while pm45 support ddr2 533-800.

You might want to add OCZ to that list. They offer a lifetime warranty as well as excellent customer service and support.

I have an HP dv9823cl. Really what I am asking is what card would be compatible with my computer? How do I tell, is it the pin count or is there more?

Download CPUz to see what type of memory you have. Alternatively, go to a company that sells memory, ie. Crucial, and check out the configurator. They will recommend you what you should get. I believe you have DDR2 SO-DIMM, which is 200-pin as you have mentioned. Probably on the Santa Rosa platform, so stick with DDR2-667. Go to Newegg to check out the cheapest 2x2GB DDR2-667 kit. Don't worry about CAS latency or any of that other marketing fluff. Buy the cheapest kit with a lifetime warranty (ie. from a reputable company willing to back up their kit).

i totally agree with the first part... and do not worry about DDR2-XXX..
you should get DDR2-800 and it will be down clocked accordingly to what you computer can handle...
    good luck,
    David K

I wouldn't trust the Crucial memory configurator. It's been wrong about a couple things I've tried with it.
