Hi, I have two questions, If I were to buy 4gigs of ram for a laptop running 32bit vista (can't find drivers for 64bit for audio production) how much would the computer actually use and would it be more beneficial then running just 2gigs? Also, say for example, like xoticpc has regular memory sticks and then you can also upgrade to corsair ram. What would be the benefit of upgrading to a brand named ram?

It would see between about 3GB and 3.5GB. Yes it could be more beneficial than 2GB. I see no point in upgrading to "name brand" RAM, they work the same I mean a 12 gallon gas tank from BMW and GM both hold 12 gallons. Better ways to spend your money.

The only reasons to get name brand ram would be for its quality and ability to overclock (which is not the case in laptop ram) and because of warranty. Some brands have better warranties than others.

But if you're buying this ram already in the machine, then it doesn't matter what ram/warranty you get because the ram will be warranted by whatever the computer's warranty is regardless of what warranty the ram has.

so your saying I cannot overclock any laptop ram even if it is name brand? I think I'll go with the 4 gigs cause when drivers come out i can just update to 64bit and utilize the 4 gigs.

No but hardcore overclockers with desktops need the extra timings and scalability of high performance ram. And hardcore overclocking does not happen in notebooks. You don't see any dude out there with a 5+GHz laptop cpu. But in desktops that's possible only with high performance name brand ram (among other things)
