I am looking to purchase a laptop from dell soon most likely and inpsiron or vostro. I am wondering if the upgrade to 3 gigs of ram will help any since Vista uses a decent amount of ram. The 8600m gt also borrows some ram as well. I am mainly concerns about gaming with the ram. I will be getting vista 32bit(and i know that it only can handle 3.2-3.3gigs)

    Thanks

Well first of all the 8600gt does not borrow any ram at all, its all biult in, as for installing more, that always helps, you can upgrade to 64-bit vista if you want to use 4GB of ram withouth pying anything. To do this just download Vista 64-bit from then net and use the key that came with your laptop, it should work though I havent tried so no promises.

I don't think the 8600 takes any ram, and anything over 2GB of ram will be good enough for gaming. Vista does use up a lot more ram for superfetch and whatnot, but it also has a very good management that frees up ram when needed by other apps.
