I'm sorry I am a noob when it comes to upgrading my computer's hardware.
My computer's memory says that it is 4GB DDR4 SDRAM.
1. Can I add an 8GB ram so it will be 12GB in total?
2. Can it be another brand?
3. Also can it be like a DDR3? like this one? Crucial 4GB Single DDR3L 1600MT/s?
Thank you.![]()

What laptop do you have?

It's
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U Processor 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black -

You should be able to add a 2nd RAM slot but it needs to be DDR4 - that laptop does not support DDR3 or DDR3L
-
Cool thanks! Does it have to be the same brand with the ram inside? And does it have to be a 4gb ram as well or can I add 8gb to make it 12gb?

You can do 12GB, yes. As for brand - I believe it doesn't matter as long as it's a DDR4 2133 stick

gotcha! thank you so much!

Crucial Memory lists compatible RAM for this laptop at speeds of 2400 and 2666. Is this correct? Thanks!
-
Maximum recommended speed is 2133MHz but check the originally installed RAM speed with CPU-z and if it's 2400 MHz get a 2400 module, the laptop will run them at 2133MHz.

Thanks! Good to know that the laptop maxes out at 2133 so anything faster will not be utilized.
Looking forward to getting my new (old) laptop next week!
