    1. Try re-seating the RAM.

    2. Swap RAM stick slots with the other RAM stick currently installed in your notebook.

    3. RMA new RAM stick.

RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization. In other words, send it back for replacement or refund.

Basically if your at step #3 its dead. Have you tried just the new stick by itself? Does the old stick by itself still boot the laptop? Is there any beeps from the laptop? Does it boot into BIOS or is it no power at all?

RAM typically has lifetime warranty open or not. So assuming its not a compatibility issue with your laptop you can talk to the place you bought it at about getting it RMA'd or do it yourself through the manufacturer. There site will usually explain what needs to be done to RMA there products. If it is not broken and is just an issue with your laptop and this exact stick then you might have trouble but if you just bought it you should be able to bring it back to the place you bought it, maybe with a restocking fee.

if i understand correctly, the new RAM inserted the laptop will turn on without anything on the screen

but if you use the old RAM everything is working alright, you boot up to windows and stuff? try checking the RAM you got an look at the label, the type and details of the newegg RAM should match your laptop RAM letter for letter like
    pc-5300 SO-DIMM DDR2 667Mhz 1GB.. just an example. i bought pc25400 and it didnt work with mine til i got a pc25300.
