i have an alienware m15x and im trying to decide which of these two rams would be better to add into my laptop:
    newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231154

    newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231165

they both run for the same price, except one has a cas latency of 4 and the other has heat sinks. what would be more beneficial? and im assuming cas latency 4 is better for gaming?

One without the heat sink has slightly better timing.
4-4-4-12 vs 5-5-5-15 (lower the better)

P.S : Ram timing given by CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS where

    • CL: CAS Latency. The time it takes between a command having been sent to the memory and when it begins to reply to it. It is the time it takes between the processor asking for some data from the memory and it returning it.
    • tRCD: RAS to CAS Delay. The time it takes between the activation of the line (RAS) and the column (CAS) where the data are stored in the matrix.
    • tRP: RAS Precharge. The time it takes between disabling the access to a line of data and the begin of the access the another line of data.
    • tRAS: Active to Precharge Delay. How long the memory has to wait until the next access to the memory can be initiated.

You just cant post links as a noob ;) its to prevent spammers.

Anyways, i would choose the one without the heat spreaders. I have read that they actually trap heat in more in laptops as well as they dont always fit every laptop due to their slightly larger size.

Get the CAS 4 one unless you would somehow plan on overclocking. I am not even sure that heatsinks would have any benefit for notebooks anyhow, it's not like it is going to spread the heat to an open system like in a desktop.
