Sorry if this has been asked before

I am trying to upgrade the Ram on my Sony Vaio PCG K415B to 1 Gb single stick,
I have fitted DDR 333Mhz SODIMM pc2700 and cant get it to read any more than 448 Mb .
Machine specifications state 1 Gb Max
My question .. is there anything I can do to rectify this ?

    Thanks Paul.

Usually, when manufacturer's specify a maximum RAM spec of 1GB, they mean that each slot can take a maximum of 512MB sticks. (2×512=1GB).

Can I just ask why don't you use 2 sticks of 512MB instead of 1 stick of 1GB as they both result in the same effect. There have been a lot of problems in the past of the 2nd SODIMM slot in Sony laptops being faulty, and it doesn't pick up the RAM inside it.

I found a way to get around it by wedging the RAM stick down into the socket using a piece of folded paper behind the cover. Pressing the RAM stick down seemed to make it work... - hardly ideal but atleast it works and you could get your 1GB.

like sebholl said, if your machine is 1 GB max, that means 2x512 with two memory slots.

it's reading <512 because you have an integrated video card and its leeching some memory

2 sticks will also get you dual channel, so you will get slightly better performance that one stick.
