Can anyone quantify the difference in speeds for me in a 512meg ram 2100 vs 2700 for my dell 8600? I just bought the basic 256 to upgrade. I can get the 2 x 512 2100 at outpost.com for 112 and the cheapest I have seen the 2700 is about 85. Any advice?

Just look up the speed that your notebook requires and use that; if you buy anything that is faster, it won't help you at all because the motherboard and chipset determine the required ram speed and how fast the memory will run and buy memory that is capable of running faster is a waste because it will usually cost more and your motherboard/chipset won't be able to take advantage of it to run full speed.

Just to clarify, from reading some of the other posts. I saw one of the other moderators uses 2700 in their 8600. I just purchased the 755 chipset. Does this mean that even if I put 2700 instead of the 2100 it would basically run at the same speed?
