Hey,
Two years ago, my parents bought a Compaq Presario 2100. It currently has 256 MB of generic PC 2100 RAM in it. I used the crucial memory scanner and it suggested upgrading the laptop with a 256 module of PC 2700.
"Crucial recommends this 200-pin SODIMM DDR PC2700 module, or you can view the full list of upgrades compatible with your Standard HP - Compaq Presario 2100 Series."
On Ncix, they have this for sale.

Will this be compatible with my laptop?
Thank you for your input.

Idk if its just me, but the link is no good. But as long as its ddr1 pc2100/pc2700 200 pin laptop memory then its gonna work.
-
Sorry about that, link is fixed now.

Yes, that RAM is compatible. As long its PC2700 or PC2100, you will do fine.

Thank you everyone for your input, you made this research go fast. I am going to order in five minutes.
Thanks again. -
I received the Ram today, and while CPUZ detects it, windows or the BIOS for that matter will not. Should I update the BIOS on my laptop?
OR maybe my RAm is defective and I need an RMA? -
If the system does not detect or make use of the RAM you installed, it effectively doesn't work. I think you need an RMA.

I have exactly the same problem with exactly the same computer. I first bought PC2700 RAM and when I tried to use that the machine wouldn't boot. Then I tried PC2100 RAM and although the machine would boot, it would generate BSODs randomly until the RAM upgrade was removed. The BIOS shows the RAM as 160MB even with the 512MB RAM installed, and the BIOS doesn't provide a way to change that setting (you can't select that field in the BIOS setup page). Does anyone know how to get the BIOS to recognize the RAM upgrade? I don't see any motherboard switches, either.
