    Hey everyone,

I just bought a eee pc from amazon tonight (they briefly had some black ones in stock) and also picked up a 2gb stick of ram from newegg. Now I want to upgrade the ram to run xp on my eee, but I also have an hp dv6000t with 2gb of ram (2x1) in it right now and I was wondering which of these scenarios would give me the best possible overall performance gain:

    1. 2gb ram in both laptops

    or

    2. put 1 gb in the eee and 3 in the HP.

    what do you think?

Um well it's really up to you and what you plan to do with these notebooks.
I would probably put 2GB in both of them. I'd consider putting 3GB in the HP if you play video games (or something like that) and would actually benefit from the extra RAM.
For general applications, having two computers with 2GB of RAM sounds like a better idea to me.

I suppose. I do play some games on the HP, but the go7400 is probably limiting me more than ram would. and the eee will only be used for when I go on research trips to archives for my PhD so nothing too demanding. I suppose there's nothing keeping me from experimenting and changing my mind.

I'm tempted to think that 2GB of RAM in the EEE is overkill. I'm sticking with the 512MB for now; probably make it a gig later on when I feel like it. If I were you, I'd put 3 in HP and 1 in EEE [and yes, the 7400 would be quite limiting =P].

But tastes vary; why don't you stick it in both - try out both scenarios and see what works best for you?

Note: Upgrading RAM in EEE voids warranty ;)

Yeah for what you plan to use your EEE for, having 2GB might not really be worth it. 1GB should plenty. Well really, 1Gb in the EEE and 2GB in the HP should be plenty in my opinion.
Just experiment like you said and see what yu like more.

Um I don't think they can do that.
See Modifications that void your warranty.

Yeah, I got a little carried away when buying the ram, but I found a 2gb stick for 50$ and figured it was worth it... my wife needs a new computer soon anyway, so I might use it there instead and order another 1gb for the eee.

And I know about the warranty issues, I'll make sure the eee works well before doing anything either way.

Unless you are running XP in the EEE, you can't take advantage of a 2GB stick. The Xandros OS will only read up to 1GB.

    oops my bad

Did you guys catch the new eeeuser post that the newest EEEs are coming without the extra mini pci-e slot? Kinda stinks. I'm kinda perturbed about the warranty sticker too. But its the chance you take I guess.
