I'm getting a M1710 at the cost of an arm and a leg...I want to upgrade the ram to 2 gigs. But, the cost is making me think twice about acquiring those 2 sticks of ram (I know...why is the guy who bought a xps m1710 suddenly being frugal? ...the company I work for gave me credit to buy a laptop for my work) . Would I see any credible amount of performance increase from that considering that it is a mismatched pair of ram (1 gig..plus 512mb) or will it be sort of hindered by this mismatching? Thanks

The RAM speed will be clocked down to the lower of the two modules. Apart from that any increase in RAM is worth it.

upgrade the ram!!!! And you can get some kick ass chips off newegg.com made by OCZ for dirt cheap, you could get 2gb for $140, and sell the others.
