Hi all,
I have an older (way older) pentium 4 desktop, 2.0 ghz processor with 520mb of ram.
It had windows xp on it for quite a while and ran pretty good, untill we installed vista on it and its been running very very slow ever since. The video card installed is some sort ATI dedicated card.
My question is this, is it worth upgrading the ram on this pc to the max 2 gb (buying 2x 1gb ddr memory), will i see a major improvement or is this processor just not fast enough for vista, and will the computer still be slow.
Note that this is my parents computer and they only use it for e-mails and the occasional youtube or whatnot. Does not need to be anything special, but the way its working now it takes forever to open or close a window and watching a streaming video online isnt any better, the video will start and stop after a few seconds etc. I know this isnt the internet connection because the computer is connected directly to a wireless router via cable, and we are running a few other laptops wirelessly with no problems whatsoever.
So,
Is it worth the $80 memory upgrade (will this make the computer normal) or should i just toss the computer out.
Thanks in advance

If it is as old as you say it is, I would just uninstall Vista and put XP back on. If they're just watching youtube videos and sending email then there is no reason they would need the additional RAM or Vista for that matter. But whatever it is only 80 dollars. Really no reason to throw the computer out. I would say get your rents to get a new computer. But if you really wanna run Vista on that machine then I would recommend getting at least two gigs.

Your system will be much faster with 2gb of memory. Vista is a memory hog, so it woll run much faster, I estimate 3 -5x faster with 4x the memory.
I sent you a PM with a memory offer, let me know if you are interested.
I would like to make a deal if you are in the usa.
