Here's my situation: I have a Mac Mini that has 2gb worth of ram, 1gb is a kingston and the other is a brand that I never heard of. The other 1GB stick came from a macbook pro that i used to have.
I also have 2gb in my lenovo thinkpad, the brand is transcend for both sticks.
A friend of mine is selling his macbook that has 2gb corsair and offered me the sticks. Is it worth while changing the rams? If so, which 2gb should I let go of? He's not asking for any money but the agony of opening the mac mini is painful. The rams on the thinkpad are of the same brand and seem to be alright.
Bottom line, does the brand make a difference? How good are transcend? Is it ok to mix brands like in the mac mini?

In almost all notebook cases, the brand of the RAM doesn't matter. If changing the RAM is difficult, I personally wouldn't go fr it, and if the specifications (latency, for example) is the same, then its even more useless. What matters more is the amount of RAM, and since your friend has the same amount of RAM, you won't notice the difference.

corsair are usually a better brand and transcend are still good though. if one brand of sticks has better specs then go for that but that also depends on cost. the difference as above may be negligible

OK, I stuck the 2gb transcend on the mini, traded the bad brand 1 gb for a kingston without paying a lot of difference and now have 2gb kingston on the thinkpad and 2gb transcend on the mini. I am now happy

I've been using two different brands of the same type of 1gb RAM and they work perfectly fine.
One is corsair and the other is patriot.
Ram upgrade, same brand make a diff?
