What would be more beneficial for gaming and general application use, a 2Ghz with 1 Gig of Ram or a 1.63 Ghz with 2 Gigs of ram. This will be on a Dell E1505 with an x1400 card.

    Thanks

RAM is a cheap future upgrade. I'd recommend the processor at time of purchase.

The 2GB of RAM will be helpful in newer games; however, I would go for the 2GHz CPU and then upgrade the RAM yourself to save money as strikeback said. Newegg.com has RAM for much less than Dell charges.

If you have an option to choose, to use 2 Ghz cpu with 1x1024MB memory can give you a flexible in the future. At least you still have one more memory slot to upgrade. If you want to upgrade the cpu, you have to spend extra money to replace your own one.

CPU then memory. It doesn't hurt to piece it together if you do it big.

you will benifit considerably from getting the better CPU. Remember than a CPU cannot be upgraded but RAM can be upgraded. Order your Dell and use it for a while. If you feel that it could be faster, you can always order the RAM later.

Get the CPU. Dell charges way to much for ram, so just get the basic 512 then sell the 2 x 256 and get 2 x 1028 from newgg.com and you can prob get it for the same amount of getting the 1.63 and the 1 gig of ram. Dell charges like 250 bucks if you want 2 gigs of ram for the e1505 if you upgrade from the stock amount. Gl :D

like everyone else is saying...go with the higher CPU. i think dell actually offers good deals on those, while they give you more ram for an arm and a leg
