So after several months of random BSOD on a fresh install of XP on my GF's old A30 I finally decided to download memtest and give it a run, it is currently about 77% thru and has found two errors. I assume this could be the cause of the random BSODs. they both appeared at 503.6MB (which kinda sucks since I have a 512MB and 128MB sticks in there, so I assume it is the 512MB stick that is bad). Anyway is there anyway to restrict the amount of memory that is addressed on a RAM stick, i.e. have the 256MB of the 512MB stick available.

You cannot really restrict how much to use of certain memory without modifying various hardware/software.
Do this remove the battery and power and remove the memory for about 5ish mins
install the memory in securely make sure its in right and put the battery back in and power and run memtest again. -
Just buy new memory for it. Maybe its a good time to upgrade to 1gb +

Well it wasn't the original memory, it only came with 128MB (it was a $28 buy from ebay). The 512MB stick also came from ebay, it was probably bad to start with since I got the 512MB stick and notebook around the same time and I have always had these issues, but since it wasn't may notebook I wasn't really that bothered about fixing it. I will probably just buy some more if it doesn't have one of those lifetime warranty stickers on it, only problem is that its the old PC133 RAM (pre DDR/DDR2) and it's kinda expensive, I will probably just go with another 512MB stick since it's just a web browsing computer so 640MB is all I really need under XP.
