    Hi,
My notebook is radomly shuting down. I don't know if it is because of the 8600M GT. The temperatures are fine. Even after the 3dmark06 test, highest GPU temperature is about 65C. Same is also true for the CPU.
Moreover, if I recall, it also happened a couple of times when I had the TL 66 along with the 8400M G.
The shutdown happens after long intervals. Any idea what could be the issue.

    Thanks

Sounds like heat despite the temperatures. Have you cleaned out your fans?

What would you be doing when the laptop shuts down?

Does it restart itself after shuting down?

The Fan and vent are clean. HWMonitor doesn't show any high temperatures.
Watching Anime on VLC Player and downloading Anime using IDM.
The Notebook doesn't restart, Just powers off.

    Note:
I have undervolted the CPU currently at 0.9V at 9.5x multipier (1.9Ghz).

The shutdown is happens after long intervals, not like after 5 minutes or so. I just did 3dmark06 benchmark, but the notebook didn't shutdown. Last night the set IDM to download about 4GB of video files and when to bed. In the morning everthing was downloaded. The PC was off but thats because if the IDM settings to turn off.
In short, because of the long intervals, I am not quite sure of the reason for the shutdown yet. I will try Video encoding and see if the PC shuts down or not.

When you turn your computer back on after it shuts itself down, does it say it has "recovered from an unexpected error?"

You might want to check the Event Viewer in Computer Management. Hopefully an error log is written there before it shuts down...look for Red Xs

Check the fans, could very well be a Thermal Issue.
Otherwise I suggest performing a Boot-n-Nuke along with a fresh install.

    - When the computer restarts, there are no error, only the option to enter safe mode by windows. Just like if you power off the system without leting windows do it.

    - I really don't know how to use the evenlogger, however, i checked the "Hardware Event" section, but there were no logs in that section. There are some Red signs in the Application Logs section, but I don't think they are related like
"The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

    - I persume it is a thermal issue as well, and the main culprit should be the video card. Today, I started encoding 15 episodes of Hell Girl and the process went flawlessly (though I did raise the back of the notebook for good air ventilation). Till know the notebook has shutdown and the only thing left to try is gaming. Let see.

it could be something with the video cards, and the nvidia 8600m are just not doing very good right now at all...

It *powers* off? Not 'system freezes (either display is frozen or display goes black), hard drive's still running, laptop indicators are still on'? If it's the former, and your entire system powers off (are you on a/c power, or is this battery?) it might be a motherboard or power supply issue. If it's the latter, your graphics card is overheating.

Just checking: the notebook isn't set to turn itself off after a certain amount of time and/or after you finish doing whatever you're doing (quite a lot of encoding software autochecks 'turn off after i finish' for example), and you ARE running on a/c power?

I was going to ask the same questions.

If you manage the encoding and the benchmark without shutdown, then you could illiminate the overheating problem.

Did you scan your laptop for viruses (just in case)?

Well as far as encoding is concerned, doesn't it only stresses the CPU. It also happened a couple of times when I had the TL 66. Is there anyway to check if its the motherboard, because I have the warranty which ends in november 16. I can send it in for repair.

I Scaned the notebook, no viruses.
The notebook shutsdown (power off). However, during the encoding the screen did go black (excluding the taskbar, only the screen), However, the system didn't freeze. I couldn't see any windows. Only knew that they are open from the taskbar. I just went to start - switch user - and loged back in and everything was fine.

    Ok, now it happened twice.
The first time I was just web surfing, but for quite some time.
The second time the notebook was on a cooler and it happened after I started the Computer, a little web surfing, about 5 minutes, and then suddenly the screen went black, (note: the power button to still lit up for five seconds) and then the power went out. Now, I am back with the 8400M G to see if it happens again.
During the changing process I did notice there two thermal pads for the Ram on the 8600M GT were missing.

lets see, if its a mobo problem it should happen again. Its certainly not the CPU as the second time the CPU temperature was around 40C.

lol, again happened with the 8400M G in there. I guess that only leaves the mobo as the only suspect.

Hmm it's happening to me as well,

basically I can be doing a range of tasks from net surfing to typing a report in MS Word, or listening to music....watching videos..... and then suddenly everything would freeze for about 5 seconds and the laptop gets turned off.

It's a fairly recently problem, I've owned my laptop for around 10 months now. I am just curious whether it may be a problem due to:
    (1) deleting some registries
    (2) disabling some windows services that i thought i dun need.

I started using Vista Manager to clean up my computer recently that's why I was wondering if that could be the suspect.
