I just bought a ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 g533qs model, with AMD 5900hx and 3080 gpu.

Is anyone getting random USB drops then it reconnects.

I seem to be getting random USB drops and it reconnections when I transfer larger data files from the phone or a external HD.
    Anyone getting similar drops.

I know @Mr. Fox fox said that he got USB drops with his 5950x 16 core cpu on a desktop but I am getting the same issue on a laptop. I updated all drivers on the Asus website.

instead of drivers, you should probably be looking at BIOS updates to see if any of them address this issue.

While I count my lucky stars and have never experienced this issue on my desktop, it seems to be an issue that overall people are facing.

I've checked asus and it has the newest bios.

I've also checked online and it seems the desktop community has lots of issues with USB dropping. I'm returning this POS laptop with AMD processor back to Amazon and kiss AMD goodbye.

Last time I had a AMD processor or gpu was maybe 8yrs ago and it had tons of issues. Seems they cant get anything stable.

The issues could derive from the chipset, but cant say for certain.

Have you tried using the motherboard I/O instead of the front header?

EDIT: woops, sorry misread. Sleep aids in full swing lol

Try going into your power options in Win10 and disable select suspend.

I would also look at the BIOS and disable any power limiting items. Just to rule certain things out.

I only have these options for power options.

Never had a laptop with such low options, I always had the full options.
My windows 10 key is activated.

I'll try to look in the bios for any power saving or USB options. I didnt think of looking in the bios.

I assume it may have to do with the current power plan, though its odd to me that is all that is available.

Does the options available change when switching power plans?

This is something that’s common to Asus gaming laptops. In my experience not even making registry edits could bring back all the options.

Based on the OP's feedback it sounds like either the drive is out of spec and trying to draw too much power or the USB ports are under spec and not providing enough power for the external drive.

I was wondering about that also.

I did find out that the back USB port doesnt drop while the 2 USB ports on the left side of the laptop are the ones that drop. What a weird laptop.

What settings does your bios have in regards to either USB or power?
