Not sure which forum to put this is so I put it here. I got an external monitor for my birthday a month ago and primarily used it for my xbox. I just bought hdmi cables and hooked it up to my laptop. Every once in awhile I get a random hiss coming from the back of the monitor for a split second. Anyone know what this could be?

Nope. Have you checked all the connections to make sure there isn't a loose connection that might be shorting?

I'm assuming you've checked for anything that smells like plastic burning?

Of course. No smells like that. I've checked everything and can't seem to find a fault anywhere

Good, but honestly, there's no "of course" about it - you would be surprised what some other people will ignore.

How loud is this hiss? If it's very faint and fairly high pitched, it's probably just a capacitor discharging.

    What monitor are you using?

I have a HP W2228H 22" which is making the same high pitched noise when turned on stand-by or even off. Its in my brothers room so its not bugging me but it still is really annoying.. only way to make it stop is to pull out the power cable. Ive read that other monitors of the same kind have the same 'problem'.

Its an Asus 24". Not sure of the model number. The easiest way to describe the noise would be when you spray a spray paint can or wd-40. And its only for a split second
