I obviously have some idea, but I am uncertain to a large degree.

I am going to be buying a notebook soon, and I still am having trouble figuring out the differences between these mobile cards. Can anyone shed light on how these rank up to each other and how much of a difference I would see between the cards.

I am a light gamer. CS/DOD source, stuff like that.

    Thanks in advance.

    The 5 cards-

    ATI Mobility Radeon X600 128MB HyperMemory (64MB Dedicated + 64MB Shared)

ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 w/ 256 MB VRAM GPU (512 MB Hypermemory)

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 128MB VRAM w/ Turbo Cache 256MB

    ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 256MB

    NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 512MB

    ranked from slowest to fastest

    1. ATI Mobility Radeon X600 128MB HyperMemory (64MB Dedicated + 64MB Shared)

    2. NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 128MB VRAM w/ Turbo Cache 256MB

    3. NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 512MB

    4. ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 w/ 256 MB VRAM GPU (512 MB Hypermemory)

    5. ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 256MB

The difference between the final 3 is fairly small however.

One other question. My brother has a -

    GeForce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 8X Video Card

in his desktop, and I am very impressed with the card.

How much better is this card than the top 2 ATI cards mentioned above?

Wow, the two ATI cards are better than the 6800XT?

    Sounds great.

Yea the closest to a 6800XT you will get in a notebook smaller than 15.4 inches is the Go7700 in the Asus G1 or Asus A8js.

The 6800XT is currently the lowest end "high-end" video card w/ 256-bit memory interface.

    It has 8 pipelines!!!!

You can get a regular Geforce 6800 (which has 12 pipes) and it would be much better.

The nVidia 7700 and ATI X1700 are as good as a 128-bit interface videocard is going to get.

even though the 7700 go has higher 3dmark scores than a 6800 gt, actual gaming is going to be faster in the 6800 gt.
Dont ask me to explain why its an actual side by side test i did.

You can call these cards a similar level. the 7700 go is a faster gpu but a slower memory interface. The 6800 gt is a slower card with a faster interface.

Its faster though. This is sort of the grey line but the 6800 gt is faster.
