Last night I turned my laptop off and it went off instantly as opposed to a shut down. I commented even, wow thats fast, just click off.

The green suspend light was not on, you know how it would normally flash.

So I slept. This morning i opened the lid and the suspend light was flashing.

So I just hit a key. It went on instantly.

And from my desktop the battery was at 100%

Thats what really makes it weird because I could have easily hit the wrong button, but if it had been in suspend all night it would have used the battery, as a matter of fact it would have run it out and gone to hibernation by then.

Any idea what happened here? Seems like a computer miracle.

I believe Vista uses an "Auto-Off" type function. You most likely hit that button instead of opening the adjacent menu and selecting shut down.

The auto-off function was meant to give the computer a more home theater component-like behavior. No waiting for the machine to save and shut down.

It does only put the computer into a suspended state, though. However, Vista is much better about power management and sleep state transitions/management. That most likely accounts for the little to no battery loss.

Ya I must say, 8 hours and no battery use is quite good. That is what happened, auto off.

If it can go into suspend without using the battery thats pretty amazing has anyone else seen this?
