Im looking for the lowest power consumption mechanical drive on the market, minimum storage size 1tb , but eyeballing the new hitachi 5k1500 (not sure if it would consume more out of having more heads). I don't care about the speed, just that it consumes the least amount of power and that is 1tb or more, it has to be 2.5 hdd, but no limitation on width (in case those WD 2tb are efficient, ill go that route), also preferred if its quiet, main reason im looking into 5400rpms drives. I have good luck with Hitachi on the past, and probably that will be my route, but im open to other brands as long as fits better what i posted above.
Thanks for any suggestion,
-

I would not consider any other HDD at this point in time: Hitachi has always made the most balanced drives with regards to efficiency, quiet operation and highest performance. Not to mention the longest lasting and most durable, ime.
Go with the Hitachi; you won't go wrong.Abula likes this. -
Thanks tiller for your input, i have access to 3 hitachis 5400rpm 1tb or plus

I really would like to go with 1.5tb, but its triple platter, so im not sure if it be as quiet as the 1tb or consume the same power? -

Yes, the 1.5TB drive will require more power to spin up (5W vs. 4.5W) and it will be slightly louder (2.5/2.7 Bels vs. 2.4/2.7 Bels), but considering that you have 50% more capacity than the 1TB drive, I think this tradeoff is more than acceptable. Especially when almost every other important spec is essentially identical.

That third link is for an external HDD kit... (it won't work inside your notebook, right...).
Good luck.Abula likes this. -
Thanks again tiller for your links and info, really been helpful, -

No, the spin up wattage (power used) is only important if you cold boot the system many, many times a day.
In the other aspects (see the power section in the links provided), the power consumed is the same between the 1TB and 1.5TB models.
The difference is simply spinning the platters up to speed (but once that is done, it takes the same amount of power to keep them spinning).
Glad to have helped.
Take care.
Recommend me a low power consumption 2.5 hdd
