I need reliable harddrive for my lappy. What good of a fast hard drive if there is a higher than average chance it fails?! I read some bad reviews on Seagate 500GB 7200 rpm, for example, so I do not want it.

What would be your recommendation, pls?

    Thank you!

P.S. I don't want SSD b/c of they are expensive.

    1. 500GB Hitachi 7K500.. very reliable and been out for long..
    2. 500GB Western Digital scorpio black.. out quite recently and slightly better than hitachi but for me it doesn't match reliability of hitachi.. hitachi should also be quieter..

    3. 500GB Seagate Momentus XT.. its the fastest of lot although not most reliable like most seagate drives.. but much more reliable than 7200.4 drives..

Thank you for the link, I got confused about the number -- H2IK5001672SP. There are only 15 reviews on this drive, too few for a drive that's been out awhile, I guess newegg used to sell them under a different name/number.

I am reading people are having issues with WD Scorpio Black 7K500...

Yeah, I trust Hitachi above all other HD manufacturers - consistently good/great performance and high reliability is what has earned them huge points from me.
