Any recommendations for an external hard drive?

-I want it to be powered via USB
-I want it to be large, 400-500 gigs
-I want it to be portable (2.5")
-Prefer for it to be name brand

I prefer to buy through newegg, but any other reputable retailers are fine too. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

All of these should fit the criteria. I have an 2.5" WD Elements 500GB (which isn't in the list though).

That list is ordered by customer rating, but you can reorder by lowest price.

Have you any reservations about putting together one of your own? In many cases, buying a separate external hard drive enclosure and HDD and marrying the two together can be much more cost effective (and satisfying) than buying a pre-built solution. Something to consider. =)

My current favorite combo is the Silverstone SST-TS01B 2.5" external enclosure matched with a Western Digital 5,400RPM 500GB WD5000BEVT hard drive.

Depends on the hard drive and the enclosure of course. Sometimes you can get lucky and get rebates or whatnot that further lowers the price.

I've always been partial to Western Digital myself...
