I'm awaiting the arrival of my T61p laptop and i was wondering what would be the best security apps to use (anti-virus, firewall, spyware, etc.). I've heard good things about CA, avast!, NOD32, but some of those are old posts and things can change. I would also like to know what good optimization apps are out there, and if there are any other need-to-have programs.

I'm using the laptop for school, business apps, and slight gaming (WoW, CS:S, etc. if there any apps to improve gaming).

NOD32 is really great if you are willing to pay for it (or...)
But if you cannot afford it, AVG is also amazingly good!
    It's free + it's good enough! :D

I'd advise you to read the guides in this section of the forum for further documentation of what you should and should not do to your new lappy :)

Threatfire is also a good supplement to a traditional Anti-Virus with the added bonus of being free.

Eset Smart Security (NOD32) FTW. You can't go wrong with that.

Another vote for ESET NOD 32. You can get it for around $50 on newegg. I love that it updates itself all the time and only takes up about 30,000k of memory according to task manager. Norton took up a sh*t ton back when I had it.
