I have a ms-1719 with a 17" wsxga+ screen. Every so ofter it will get red vertical lines that appear on certain colors like black/gray/blue. They go away if I let it sit for a while, or if I close the lid a little hard. Sometimes a tap on the top of the display gets it to stop. It kind of leads me to think that it is a loose cable or something, I checked the connector to the mobo and it seemed snug. Does any one have an idea of what might cause this, or how to fix it?

It could be the panel going bad. I once had that problem with my i9300, and it turned out to be the panel showing its age.

I hope not, it is only 9 months old =/ I also hooked it up to an external monitor and it worked fine on that monitor (no lines)

Do you have warranty on the notebook? If you do, I would try to use it.

It sounds like either a bad connection between the screen and the motherboard, or a bad screen.
If you have warranty, I would get it fixed asap.
If warranty is out, take the screen lid apart and reconnect the cable on the back of the lcd panel and see if that fixes anything.
Most times it is just a loose cable. The cable can become loose if the screen is bent back too far. This can be fixed with a little piece of tape. Just tape the cable to the back of the screen after the cable has been connected. This will insure that the cable does not come loose.
