I recently bought a used laptop which had advertised as having wireless+bluetooth.
It does not have either.
I'm considering asking for a partial refund instead of just returning the laptop.
PCMCIA wireless card=$70(incl tax+ship)
Bluetooth USB adpater= $25(inc tax).
+there will be a loss of the pcmcia slot, and one usb port.
So what would be a fair amount of refund to ask for ?

I bought the laptop used, so I doubt the person will have the LAN cards. -

What make/model laptop is it?
It's very strange for a laptop with a motherboard which supports such a new CPU, not to have built-in wireless support -

Did you unscrew the covers and look to see if the WiFi and BT cards are physically present?

You should just be able to check Device manager and see if they are in there. Maybe the drivers are not installed?

Ok I checked on the dell website using the serial number, there is indeed no wireless or bluetooth card.
So, back to the origianl question, how much refund should I ask for ? -
The amount it will cost you to get the new cards. The laptop was advertised as having it...
-
how about have them to send you the parts?
-
How about you send it back. If he lied about that what else might he have lied about.

Does the latitide you have support mini PCI cards? I bought a mPCI wifi card ( Intel WiFi 4965AGN - $41 shipped), and installation was straight forward. They also have mini cards for bluetooth, but it costs just as much as a USB adapter. However, there's a big difference in my eyes between installed vs USB peripherals.
I would say ask for a 10% discount, or $100 (whichever is greater). Otherwise, return the laptop for false advertising. -
I wouldnt return the laptop, you can easily pick up a good wireless card for like $40 or so. It is not a big deal. It is such a hassle to ask the customer back for something, and most likely the owner will disredard your claims, so just buy a replacement wireless card. Hey at least you have say in which one you get.

yeah you could get better wireless cards. I say $100 for the parts and your troubles. Not to mention it was falsely advertised, which means you could refund it if they dont comply to your request.
