Regarding the OCZ drive that's listed in announcements

Does anyone know how good of a drive this actually is? I know OCZ SSDs have had their issues, but I seem to be under the impression that a recent firmware update has cleared up most of them. Any input?

EDIT: Didn't realize that the drive listed in annoucements is a SATA2 drive running 34nm nand. From my own experience owning a Vertex2 with 32nm nand, its completely stable.

    but my recommendation still stands:

The only OCZ drives i would get are the new OCZ Octane Drives because they use a new Indilinx controller and look very promising. Also the more expensive OCZ mAx IOPS drives are more reliable

They have FW 1.1 on them. They are extremely solid drives. The flash is Intel 34nm not the new 25nm Intel that is giving Sandforce drives fits.

Go take a look at the reviews on the drive from Tweaktown. They did a complete rundown.

Another big advantage to these drives is the speed. They are up to 25% faster than the current 24nm versions.

OCZ is not a brand with which I'd want to be on the bleeding edge.

Anyone who's had an OCZ drive crap out on them probably shares this opinion...

AMATX, It is not an OCZ problem all of the manufacturers using the Sandforce controllers are having these problems since the change over to 25nm flash. I have not heard of and have not witnessed of any blanket issues with these drives being offered.

It is a unique opportunity to have these available right now.

I can tell you this we have shipped around 200pcs so far since 2010 and we have only had 3 defective returns.

Past reputation and performance matters to me. When my OCZ SSD crapped out, I got zero help from OCZ customer dis-service. Totally fluffed off.

Nothing wrong w/Intel, Samsung, Crucial; at least, according to posts from many, many users.

Lots of other OCZ posts besides mine. Read up and find out what others think.

Guys I get the felling the community is not seeing this for what it is.

They are a great product and we are liquidating them. These are 34nm SSD's at lower than 24nm price. 34nm flash is around 25% more expensive vs 24nm. These drives would be a value at $400. This is a fantastic opp to upgrade that laptop or desktop with a $400 peace of equipment at $250.

If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

I got this same drive about... a year ago. I think. Yeah, about a year; I got it a little after I got my GX660R, which I've had for about 14 months.

When I used the Vertex EX LE, every couple of bootups it would randomly disconnect and not be found in my BIOS or anything. When it worked, it worked great. When it didn't, there was som epic rage flying around. Ended up selling it, with the disclaimer that it might be defective. The guy I sold it to (He had an Asus G53 or G73, I forget) never came back to me with issues.

So, I'm a little wary of OCZ Sandforce SSDS. Then again, DAT PRICE.

    I'm wrestling with it.

Well, made the plunge and ordered one. Would be a great upgrade for my Dellienware M11x (which already has the old-model Momentus XT 500GB hybrids). I'll be update with my status, since last time I had this particular SSD I didn't have a good experience with it.

And I have to bug MDD's customer service. I accidentally forgot to include the discount coupon. D'oh.

so, 1.5% failure rate. That's high. not has high as the 24nm sandforce ssds but still high compared to intel ones.

I would buy except they charge for my country they charge a completely insane $35 of shipping for such extremely large 99.8 x 69.63 x 9.3mm and very heavy 77g drive.

$35 for UPS international express to your location is a very good deal have you tried pricing it out elsewhere? Also with the NBR discount you are talking near break even on the shipping. We have shipped around 70 units to AU and those guys have been thrilled with the shipping service.

1.5% is average for SSD. Usually (95% of the time) if an SSD is going to go it will go within the 1st few hours of use.

Well if I could pinch you I would but you are in fact awake. We are liquidating this inventory at a huge discount. The cost to build this very same SSD would be over $380 USD.

Once they are gone they are gone.

Received it yesterday and I slapped it into a dock to run some quick tests on it. No problems.

Put it into my Dellienware and reinstalled Windows. So far everything works without a hitch. I'm still in the process of getting my files moved back over.

I'm kind of tempted to get another one, haha.

Although what I really need is sanely priced 640GB+ 2.5'' HD to use as an external. Wouldn't happen to have any lying around, would you, MDD?

don't the 34nm also last longer than the 24 nm drives too? Also are any of the new SSDs ever going to come down to a dollar per gig in the next 6-12 months? That is really the big question on whether i'll upgrade or not. (not count the vertex plus...that thing has horrible reviews)

This is unique opportunity, the chance of ever getting a new 34nm SSD at $1 a gig is near 0%. This drives cost to build today is far more than our selling price. Again we are liquidating these drives.

There are only around 35pcs left now and we just sent a promo out to our email list giving them a $30 off coupon like we did for NBR. If anyone is on the fence you may want to jump.

Theoretically, that is true. In practice, because you only need a single part to fail in order for the whole SSD to die and because firmware/controller failures outnumber NAND failures by several orders of magnitude, it doesn't really matter.

Took a punt on one of these. $30 for UPS shipping to Australia is reasonable I'd say. I have a Corsair F120 that uses the same Sandforce controller and 34 nm NAND which is working pretty well, so fingers crossed this one follows the same path lol

Hmm. How does this look? Moderately worried that the health is 73% with nothing but a fresh install windows and some monitors and benchmarks installed. I think the CDM results look normal.

    Why have forgotten about is
not expensive variant OCZ Agility 3 uses the SandForce SF-2281 and 25-nm NAND

compared to the Corsair 120 is much more interesting

That's very strange. That drive should last for several hundred terabytes, at least. I would download something like SSDlife and see if it confirms the results from CDI. You could also try reinstalling Windows again, and see what it does to the expected lifetime.

That is rather worrying. I'll post mine when I receive it.

I wonder how accurate the SSD health information is. I bought my F120 used and it was at 93% health when I got it. Flashed it to firmware 2.0 and it shows up as 100% health after that up until now.

If the firmware does not report depreciation% (health) - health can be based on the wear of the cells
it makes sense to look by attribute Average Erase Count, (if it says SSD)

As far as I can see already available version 1.35 firmveyr for Vertex-LE

Just got my drive, did a fresh install and SSD Life showed a 57 percent health reading. Did an update using OCZ tool to 1.35 and SSD Life is now at 98 percent. Forge, you might want to try the update and see if it makes a difference with your SSD Life readings.

Had similar problem with my Vertex LE. It was showing 84% health after Windows install. Upgraded to firmware 1.35 and it's showing up as 100% now. Benchmark result on my M11x R1 is very similar to Forge's.

Can't really complain for the price this was sold at, considering I would've had to pay about $150 more for a 256GB M4 or $300 more for a 300GB Intel 320
