Personally, I rarely use the optical drive that came with my laptop. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect another 2.5" hard drive instead? If so, what could I use to cover up the bay opening?

    I'm using a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5141.

No problem. There are other options out there on ebay and such. But this gives you a start on your search.
