I'm working on something new. I want to replace the Seagate 160 Gb HDD Momentus 5400.3 I think currently installed inside the laptop with an external Western Digital drive. The controller is Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller. Will this work?

Okay so the WD out of the external enclosure works fine inside the laptop, but the Seagate beeps rapidly "high and low" when I connect it to the xternal enclosure. Everything fits perfect. The WD disk had a jumper across the 1st and 2nd and doesn't seem to work on the Seagate. I need the info from the Seagate, it's very important. Anyone knows how to set the jumper on the Seagate drive? It has four pins, identical with the WD drive. Thank you!

I tried the jumper on 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and no jumper. I don't seem to have any luck with it. I'm doomed. The WD worked fine with the little external interface, Seagate doesn't seem to be compatible. This sucks, it means that I have to look for an external enclosure for Momentus 5400.3 and I backed up a lot on it, it's almost full.

Okay I'm opening up my laptop again reinstalling the lil Seagate the way it was. This drive continues to give me a lot of problems and it's a waste of time, I'm going to get rid of it.

This is might be the case of lack of power. Your Seagate might need more power than the newer generation WD Blue.

Have you try to use USB cable which has dual USB plugs to the PC side in order to give more power to the ext enclosure?
