So, last time I was here I was helped by some very knowledgeable folks who I feel steered me down the path of enlightenment.
I need a brighter bulb!
I installed the T9550 but nothing happens. I mean nothing! Powers up, HD. Light flashes, then notta. I put the T8100 back in and SHAZAM! all is right with the world. Put the T9550 back in and again, notta.
So, is the T9550 a valid replacement for the T8100 or have I shot myself in the foot? Or is there something I am supposed to do before I install the T9550?
Yes, I have the latest BIOS.
HELP!

what kind of computer is it? most likely its beaucse the FSB of the T9550 is 1066 while the T8100 is 800mhz. your MB may not have support for it. check your bios to see if its the latest version. most likely however your computer is not compatible. if you tell me what kind of computer it is i can tell you for sure.
**edit*** ok your toshiba can only use CPUs with a FSB of 800mhz, likely the best you can get for yours is the T9500 -

The T9550 was designed for 1066Mhz FSB operation.
The T8100 was designed for 800Mhz FSB operation.
You likely have a 965PM chipset, which will only work if the chipset BSEL pins receive a 800Mhz signal.
If you are handy, could do a BSEL pinmod so the chipset receives a 800Mhz FSB signal instead. Would be interesting to see if the CPU can boot. If so, then could consider PLL mods to increase the FSB up to 1066Mhz as is native for the cpu. See sig if interested. -
DOPE!!!
I should have realized there must be a difference between the T9550 and the T9500...
anyone need a $200 T9550 paperweight?
I will do some looking for the T9500 and let you know if all goes well.
Thanks for your continued support.
