My laptop Dell 600m with XGA 14.1.. screen has cracked. I have a handle on a SXGA 14.1. I believe that the XGA's ribbon is a 20 pin (?) Can I use the SXGA does it require a 30 pin ribbon, can I do this swap?

As near as I can tell the 600m never shipped with a SXGA LCD, so the pins probably won't match up. As far as I know, you can't swap out the cables on the displays themselves, and swapping the connector on the motherboard probably isn't possible, and if it is, almost certainly requires a lot of skill and experience (I assume you'd have to cut the old connector free and solder a new one on).

Your best bet is probably to send it in to Dell for service, or order a replacement screen online that IS compatible and swap that in, but LCD installation can be kind of tricky, especially if you don't have much experience working with computers.
