    Hi Everyone,

My old inspiron 2600's HD just died, and I am looking to replace it. After looking around a bit, I think I have determined the HD form factor is 2.5". However, I couldn't figure out if the HD I buy should be AT-6 or AT-7 or what?

If anyone could shed some light on what type of HD I should buy I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm looking for something pretty cheap - under $100 (more than that and I might as well replace this old 2600 clunker entirely).

    Thanks a bunch,

    J.

I like Hitachis. You can probably get a 80GB 5400RPM drive for around $100. Seagate and WD are good too.

    The inspiron 2600 uses a 2.5" ATA6(ATA100) HDD.

thanks for the response - now I need to figure out how to get the old HD out of the system. Does anyone know of a link to some diagrams detailing how I would go about this? Thanks!

Thanks for the info miner - just one more question - I got the drive out and did a search on the model number, and it turns out it is an AT-5 drive. Will an AT-6 drive work for me? I can't find any AT-5 drives on newegg.

    Thanks!

As long as you get the correct interface(EIDE), ATA-6 drives should work since they are built to be backwards compatible.
