It seems almost everyone who has ordered a screen through Amazon, Ebay, etc within the last few years has ended up getting a model other than the one that was listed and had to send it back. My intention for this thread is to be something like a repository on screen vendors, as in what they list and what they (may) ship instead(I apologize if something like this already exists)
Vendor: MLC Distribution, Inc.on Amazon
Model: Samsung LTN156HL01-102
Listing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AIPZICQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What they sent me instead: Innolux n156hge TN Screen
Epilogue: Unacceptable to me, the screen I was trying to upgrade away from was an older Innolux TN screen and I wanted IPS so I have sent it back and received a full refund
Vendor: laptop_screen on EBAY
Model: Samsung LTN156HL01-102
Listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281907614725?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
What they sent me instead: AU OPTRONICS B156HAN01.2
Epilogue: I'll probably keep the panel since it is a highly recommended, high quality panel that was already on my top 3 list anyways

I have not had to purchase a replacement screen for my laptop because I just purchased it. This is really surprising that it is so common to be sent a product that wasn't exactly what was advertised. When you request a refund, what is their reason for the mix up? Sorry to hear about these poor experiences man, and I'm glad you found one that is acceptable.

I don't get that second one at all lol. They basically sent you a more expensive panel? Both those experiences are fairly alarming though.

I didn't request an explanation I knew to expect this situation based on a screen ordering thread I read on Reddit thx to 05GT
Apparently vendors put up a listing, leave it up even if they are out of stock and merely ship something they have in stock that will work -
that's pretty shady man. I would much rather be backordered than get a surprise. The best thing they could do is call you and let you know to make sure you are happy with what they can send you. It would save you both time and ultimately is just good customer service practice to follow through and communicate with customers.

No i think both panels are around the same cost I wouldn't be surprised if the Samsung was generally more expensive (the only reason I was willing to pay more with the ebay seller was because they offered a 2 year warranty)Last edited: Mar 24, 2017 -

I agree entirely it seems like an insane businesss model but it seems all the LCD vendors on these sites do it because Ebay and Amazon aren't cracking down -

What you are describing is industry-standard practice. Virtually any LCD-reseller, whether on ebay/amazon or through their own site, will ship you a compatible model rather than the exact model. They don't do this to be shady or to rip you off, rather it's what their customer base wants.
You have to understand that the vast majority of people who buy replacement panels are replacing a dead screen, rather than upgrading a screen. The extent of their technical knowledge may be as much as "here is the serial number from the back of my screen" and "fix my laptop ASAP." Thus most of their customers really would rather have a working screen sooner rather than the exact part number. And their business model is built around getting people working screens as soon as possible.
Most of the reputable sellers will have a disclaimer or fine print somewhere along these lines. For example in the ebay listing you linked to from laptop_screen, it says LTN156HL01-102 (Or compatible IPS model) in the MPN. A lot of the resllers will also allow you to do an "EXACT MODEL" order if they have it in stock, but you'll need to contact them before-hand to confirm they have the stock and for instructions on how to place such an order.
I did an "exact model" order through www.laptopscreen.com a while ago and that worked out well. They even have a representative on these forums, @LSB , whom you can pm.ChanceJackson likes this. -

Solid info as usual thanks! -
That is pretty interesting. I still see an issue though if the customer who is purchasing the screen is not satisfied. I am not as familiar as you are about the standard practices that are used for that type of company. As I said in my initial reply, I've never had to personally deal with this issue. I just think they might avoid these situations entirely if they improve on communicating with their customers to find out their needs and expectations.

I find it irritating when the retailers advertise with a well known brand panels and send another brand of compatible screen, though they are trading within the guidelines it's a bad practice to do so, I always make sure that the retailer has the exact model.ChanceJackson likes this.

Hmm when there is weak regulation in place this is what happens. Ebay customer service is difficult to deal with too and often being in the Philippines have a hard time understanding.
This is crazy. It should be written in large print that the model being sold isn't the one being sent. Buyers shouldn't have to contact customer service before hand.
No it isn't. The customer base wants precisely what is advertised because they know that's what will work otherwise it is misrepresentation and I'm pretty sure that's fraud. This goes for both those replacing broken ones or upgrading.
Anyone know how reputable laptopscreen.com is?Last edited: Mar 28, 2017 -
