My nVidia Quadro FX 2500m video card has died and I am trying to find out what my options are for replacing it since this card has been discontinued. The way I see it I can either find a used replacement (Anyone have one?) or find out what other cards will work with my system, which no one seems to be able to tell me... I can't run my editing program without the card...

Mainly, I need to know what other cards are the same size as the 2500M.

Replacement options may be the Quadro FX 2700m, the 3500m, or the 3600m. Does anyone know if these will even work with my Motherboard?

I don't think you can replace the graphics card in a laptop..

I think Tony The Tiger is wrong :D

The FX2500M is completely upgradeable and removable.

What is the model of the laptop you have?

I can tell you right now that the FX2700M and the FX3600M are out of question. They will not work. They are direct X10 cards and will not be compatible with your system.

    If you have a Dell Inspiron 9300, 9400, E1705, Xps1710, precision m6300 you have a few options ranging from a ATi X1400 up to a 7950GTX/ Quadro FX3500M.

If you have a Clevo D900T/D900K, you can go from the nVidia 6800Ultra up to the 7950GTX.

Again, I dont know what laptop you have so please specify, so we can tell you your upgrade options

May I know what notebook (Brand and model) you're using? There are notebooks out there with MXM slots and may have a chance to be replaced.

For example the Dell Inspiron E7105 can be replaced with a Quadro FX 3500M or a 7950GTX.

EDIT: Wow K-TRON asked earlier. I was in this thread for so long until I didn't see your reply. :D

Sorry... I thought I had it in the original post... It's a Hypersonic CX7 Duo, which is a rebranded Clevo M57U.

The graphics card on your system is definitely removable then.
the M57U has a MXM based graphics card so you can upgrade that without a problem.
A 7900GTX or a 7950GTX are direct drop ins and will work in your system.
FInding one isnt going to be easy, since most every online site doesnt have any.
Your best bet is to search ebay or check out mxm-upgrade to see if they have any graphics cards for you.

Your machine in particular uses MXM IV cards.

I think the FX3500M will also work, but sourcing one is going to be a challenge.

    None of them will work.

No, this is not true. The newer version - M570 RU has a MXM IV slot and Clevo started using it with this model.

The older M570U uses a Clevo proprietary format so it can take only cards that have been designed for this notebook. The highest options are the Quadro FX 2500M which you have, or the Go 7900/7950 GTX for a gaming card, but again, they should be Clevo cards.

You can try Clevo resellers and ebay, also ask in the Clevo section of this forum.

I should have read more carefully, I thought you said you had a M570RU.
Since you have the M57U, which is the earlier form, you can only use the Clevo proprietary cards like Dreamer mentioned. Since that is the case, the FX3500M is most likely not an option.

So does this mean that I cannot do anything if I cannot find a replacement card? I understand about the proprietery card, but is there anyway I can put another card in this laptop? Is replacing the motherboard an option?

Can I put an NVidia GeForce 7900GTX as a replacement in this laptop? Would that be easier to find than the Quadro?

The 7900GTX will work in your laptop, and so will the 7950GTX. You just need to buy the Clevo proprietary socket ones.
Do not buy MXM graphics cards, they will not work.
If you are looking for part numbers, I suggest sending a PM to nbr member "justin@xotic" He is very helpful, and I am sure he can tell you the part number you need.

I doubt you can buy this card new anywhere, so your only options are ebay, and other computer for sale forums

kind of a dormant thread but it's suddenly relevant as my quadro card just went out as well - same laptop (m57u)

I've found someone selling their laptop for 500 or so on ebay with a 7900 gtx- but nothing so far with a quadro fx 2500m

my solution was to buy a parted out m57a with a geforce 7800 for 200 bucks on ebay. - wouldn't boot correctly into windows so I used an opensuse linux install (I had previously set up the nvidia drivers) and I'm using it right now. Works flawlessly.

the 2500m's seem to have a 2 years life span from what I'm finding.

    Hi

    Similar problem!

Dell Precision M90, card died. Having similar problem finding anyone who can tell me what to replace it with. Looking at budget end of options, as PC not used to graphics.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Hi,

Your Precision M90 uses a Dell proprietary format, so you should find a Dell video card:

    - Quadro FX 1500M / 2500M / 3500M are the options available for your model.
    - ATI X1400, GeForce Go 7900 GS / 7900 GTX / 7950 GTX from the Insprion E1705/9400 and the XPS M1710 should work as well, and be cheaper.

Ebay.com is probably your only option in this case, search by the names of the cards, and make sure they are for the Dell notebooks I listed above.
