Hi,
I have a notebook with a COMPAL CL56 motherboard. The CMOS battery needs to be replaced, but I can't determine the exact batterytype, therfore I want to replace it with a similar type. I know is a 3V battery, and I guess it's a Litium cell. But I don't know if it shold be rechargeable or not - I guess not.
Does anyone know, if CMOS batteries usually are rechargable or not?
Thank.

They are not usually (ever) rechargeable.

Yes they recharge while the computer is running. Not to sure if you can use an off the shelf one though.
A battery that was not rechargeable would have a limited life span. I have got 5 year old computers still running on the same battery.
I would contact the maker to be safe. -
Mine is a 3V button battery, non rechargeable, 5 year life span. When you find the battery you can read the size and type directly off the battery but you may need a manual to FIND it. I have to pull the keyboard on my Dell but had to do minor surgery on my old HP, which died at 4 years plus change.
