If you can post a picture of the bottom of your laptop, we can tell you how to remove the current optical drive.
The optical drive is replaceable, but it is hard to find an e-tailer which sells notebook optical drives.
If you like the tray loading drives, I would recommend the pioneer dvr-k16 or dvr-k17.
If you like slotloading, go for the Pioneer DVR-K06.

For notebook optical drives, their are limited manufacturers. It is basically TMTC, Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic, matsu****a, and plextor.
Panasonic and Pioneer make the best optical drives in my opinion. I have had a few TMTC (toshiba) optical drives fail, so I mainly have pioneer's in my systems.

Usually you only have to remove one screw, to get the optical drive out of the laptop, but if yours is a smaller system, you may need to take the entire machine apart to get to the optical drive.
Post a picture of the bottom and we can help you. (just use paint to cover any serial numbers and operating system codes on your system)

The Sony SZ may be one of those models where substantial disassembly is required to remove the optical drive. See here for some links to guides.

What is the model number of the existing optical drive? It may be one of the slim 9.5mm thick drives and not a standard notebook burner.

Ermmm i think my optical drive is a matsu****a uj-832.

Heres the picture of the bottom of my laptop. Optical drive is in top right hand corner.

OK. The UJ-832 is a 9.5mm thick drive, so that limits your replacement options. Probably to another UJ-832 or whatever they use in the newer SZ series. These parts are not so easy to find.

Four years ago I had a Sony S series and it was necessary to take the bottom off to change the HDD or ODD. Yours looks to be the same. See this thread for guidance.

I'm sure that bezel is removable. See here for a photo of the typical fixing arrangement (that's for a standard slim burner but I sure the others are similar). The optical drives are standard units and usually come with a flat bezel. Notebook manufacturers then change the bezel to suit their notebook. A small screwdriver or two and some care should be enough to unhook it.

Do you mean that you successful replaced the DVD drive including changing the bezel?

If so, do you have any advice for anyone else?
