    Hi,

Can someone help or direct me to a tutorial that goes over what you need to install a SSD with a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it? I have the hdd and dvd drives, but only have the cd with the Asus drivers on it. I'm assuming I have to download Windows 7, rip to DVD, and boot from the CD tray?

Any direction / help is appreciated.

    Joe

    Joe,

That should get you there. Assuming there's no RAID involved (and one should definitely know the pros/cons with RAID over SSD), just install Windows 7. After install, use the ASUS drivers to update video, audio, chipsets, networking or whatever else Win 7's Device Manager could not identify during install.

Next, install any apps you may want to use, and finally, copy over any existing data you want to reside on the SSD.

Thanks. Since I am taking out the old hard drive and swapping in the ssd, do I have to change anything in the BIOS?

Just make sure that SATA mode is set to AHCI and that's it. If the laptop is recent, it should be on AHCI by default.

Tijo is right. Make sure you use AHCI/RAID (non IDE) if you have that BIOS setting.
