I'm going to replace my current HDD. Could I get some advice or link(s) as to how to go about transferring getting my files onto the new HDD? I couldn't get the NBR search engine to brew up anything special...

Are you interested in 'cloning' your drive onto another drive or in simply copying files?

    To transfer files,
the easiest way would be to hook up an external HD and transfer everything to it.

If you can't get an external HD then transfer files to another computer (via network or computer-to-computer)

If not that then you can burn your files on DVD.

If you would like to backup the whole drive then you could use something like Norton Ghost or another system backup software to create an image of your whole system and, using one of the above methods to save the backup.

I hope this helps. If I haven't answered your questions, please provide a few more details.

Yes, there are several solutions available on the web, haven't tried any of them though. Personally i used the Data Lifeguard Tools that comes standard with every new Western Digital hard drive. Simple and gets the job done. Maxtor has a similar software package. You may be able to download it off their web site.

Or just buy a case for your old hard drive. Then you can use it for backups or extra storage.
