    Hello Folks,

Haven't been on the forums in awhile, I haven't had the need. After I upgraded my Compaq, I haven't had any problems with it. Period. Still runs well today.

    Onto my new problem...

I have a buddy who bought the same 7200rpm HDD for his old Dell Inspiron. He's coming over this weekend to install and I'd like to be prepared...

Hence the question. How can we image all of the contents on his old hard drive and then transfer this to the new drive?

Are there any tutorials out there on how to do this?

Appreciate any help offered. Frankly, I'm at a loss on how to accomplish this.

    Best,

    Liquid Cool

If you're going to get Acronis, check Amazon.com. I just ordered one. Its 37.99, free shipping and a $20 rebate. Bottom line... $17.99 Note. Rebate ends 3/28/09.

Wow. Just checked in, lots of replies to my post...

I've used Acronis before. The 10th version I believe. My problem is I'm used to desktops where I can just hook up the second drive to a s-ata or ide cable and image the second drive from the first.

With a laptop this isn't possible, can I put the second drive in an external enclosure and do it through the usb port? Exactly how do I go about doing this - meaning the mechanical part of it...I guess that is my question.

Appreciate all the replies, this forum has always been very helpful.

    Best,

    Liquid Cool

Edit: Thanks Marmaduke...ordering now. Guess we might have to wait until I get it though...give's me plenty of time to figure out how to get this done... ;)

Yes you can do it that way, actually that is how I do it. I have image of laptop drive on an external drive and Acronis work just fine through USB port and external drive. If that is what you asked.
