Replacing RTC (CMOS) Battery on HP Envy 15T-1100 CTO

I found that this part is no longer carried by hp (part# 576848-001 for product NX346AV)

The same was true for the CPU heat sink assembly, but I was able to find the corresponding part on Alibaba for around $20, and with the helpful guidance of some kind NBR members, I was able to replace it myself.

In the case of the CMOS battery, the correct part is available from US sellers for in the range of $60-80 (one seller lists it for $58 + $34 shipping!).

On Alibaba I can't find the exact part, but I'm wondering if the CMOS battery for a different hp laptop might work?

Is it worth trying one of these other batteries?

This exact same Compaq battery, stamped "Newsun CR2032HF-24" is also listed for HP Probook 6560b and Elitebook 8570P. I feel like it might be the same one in the Envy - what do you think?

Even better; any CR2032 is fine ($0.15).

Just get a new cell and remove old one from the plastic wrapper + cable. Hold new cell in-between the two tabs and wrap tightly with electrical tape (for proper connection). Old cell is probably spot-soldered, so you need to pull a bit or use a knife/pliers to separate the two tabs from the cell.

I had removed wrapper from the old one and I saw that it was the same CR2032 battery inside. Was going crazy trying to figure out how to replace it without damaging the harness.

Do the tabs pivot? Or do I need to pry them outwards? (Scared I might break the tabs.)

EDIT: Also, after I do this, do I need to update or make any changes to my BIOS?

 

Managed to replace it with CR2032 from Home Depot, using the following method, and all the issues went away.



I couldn't find any of that little conductive metal tape he uses, so I just held the tabs in place with my fingers and wrapped the whole thing tightly with electrical tape.

On startup I got an error message indicating CMOS reset, and second time it started fine. Do I need to make any changes or updates to BIOS at this point?

 

The BIOS usually resets to default. If you were already at default, then no.

If you modified something, then yes.
