I have four USB Ports total, I was wondering if it was possible to crack open the laptop and just remove them and put in USB 3.0 ports or are they integrated or something?

Most ports are sadly are integrated with the system board. Even if some ports weren't integrated with the system board, they still need to attach to a controller and the controller is often also integrated with the system board. So it is impossible to upgrade to USB 3.0 in the controller sense.

The Inspiron 1520 has an ExpressCard, you should be able to get like a 2 port USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter.
