The hard drive in my dell d630 is almost full, so I have my eye on this bad larry.

My question: is there some way I can clone my old hard drive onto the new one? I really don't want to reinstall vista on the new hard drive and copy all my files manually... I've heard of software that can do that in desktops, but I'm generally confused.

    Any pointers are much appreciated.

I think this and a google search would help...

Although, personally, I'd take the time to reinstall and manually move the personal files.

Nice HDD BTW!! i cannot imagine that one running out of space :p.

Thanks. So the software part of it doesn't sound too impossible.

What is still bothering me is how would I go about cloning my current hard drive... there are 3gbs of free space (out of 120). Where would I clone it?

This is a pain in the ass. Not to mention my desktop is very old and full of viruses (viri?), so I'm a little hesitant about plugging my relatively clean laptop hard drive into my desktop.

Is there a way to connect two hard drives to one laptop? That would be spectacular.

And thanks for the responses guys.

USB 2.0 to SATA cable (search on ebay for cheaper stuff)....Install a new OS on the new HDD and then copy all the stuff from the old one....
